Michael is a career civil servant who currently works as a Health and Safety Inspector. He and his wife Michelle are the proud parents of three children, Brandon, Austin, and Abigail. Michael enjoys sports and is still involved in local sports as an ice hockey referee. He is active in his local church were he has served as a member of the servants board and on the worship team where he plays the saxophone. . He has also been active in the children’s program at the church where he has been a story teller for the kids, and a leader for both the junior and senior youth of Mapleview Community Church.
In 2009, Michael and Michelle went to South Africa and lived in the community of Richmond for several weeks while completing the adoption of their beautiful daughter. They both fell in love with the country and the people but were also witness to the extreme needs present in the community. A trip through the townships of Richmond left them with a desire to give back to the community in some way. This led them to begin to volunteer their time with Emmanuel’s Wish Foundation when they returned to Canada.
When the opportunity came in 2010 to join the board of directors of the foundation, the fit was perfect for Michael. “I believe strongly in what Emmanuel’s Wish Foundation is trying to accomplish and want to help them give back to an area of the world that has given me so much. We are biblically called to care for widows and orphans and this organization is meeting that call. Jesus asked the question ‘what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?’ Matthew 16:26. As someone who tries to follow that example, I am proud to be able to do what I can to help such a worthy organization.”
