When the 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti on January 12, 2010, EWF immediately set to work to establish Emmanuel House, an emergency children’s home set up to care for children orphaned by the devastation. In February of 2010, Emmanuel’s Wish Foundation sent two board members to Haiti to assess the home and the needs of the children, and to make long term plans for the children in our care. As part of their duties, the board members interviewed each child in the home and recorded the details of the children and their families. After lots of checking and double checking, EWF was delighted to find that every child except one, still had family members alive and well. Our board members immediately took these findings to the UN delegation in Haiti and spoke to them at length. Two meetings later it was decided by the United Nations that they would assist our plan to return the children to their homes and parents. So after one month of emergency care, the children in the care of EWF at Emmanuel House were reunited with their families! The one orphaned child in our care is now being cared for by an auntie. We are pleased that the children could return to their families and we ask that you would join us in prayer for these people.
EWF also collected clothing and relief supplies to be sent to Emmanuel House for the children. Once the children were reunited with their families, the shipping container was immediately forwared to a relief agency in Port au Prince. The shipping container was received and distributed to needy families affected by the disaster. The Canadian Foundation for the Children of Haiti was the relied organization that assisted EWF in this endeavor. Information on this organization can be found at http://www.cfchcanada.ca/.
We continue to pray that the children will flourish and grow into the next generation of leaders for Haiti. We pray that Haiti will continue to recover from the negative effects of the earthquake which they endured. We also pray that the container which we sent has found its way to the neediest people and that it was put to the best use possible, to assist earthquake victims in Port Au Prince.
